Welcome to My Blog
Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.
Hi, I’m Geoffrey, an avid knowledge seeker and advocate on “self-education”. I’ve created this blog to share with you my experience, thoughts, and knowledge on how to develop better learning skills so you may study any subject of your interest more effectively.
I believe the desire to learn is universal because if asked almost everyone wants to change some aspects of their lives. And change most certainly begins with learning.
I am also convinced no matter how old you are, if you are free from mental illness, you have already got the intelligence and capacity to be successful at learning. Let’s face it, your brain is the single most important asset in your possession. With over 100 billion neurons and almost infinite connections, the potential is truly mind-boggling.
Learning is not as difficult as you may think. You will certainly encounter challenges which in my view are necessary. Challenges are opportunities for growth. Tough plants thrive in harsh environments and muscle fibres become thicker under heavy loads. Without challenges atrophy soon follows.
Once you have developed sufficient skills, the entire learning process can be really enjoyable. A book a week beats the most popular TV show every time.
We now live in an information age where knowledge is the commodity and the key to diverse opportunities. It makes no sense to remain where you are and stop trying. Adopt a mentality of never-ending enquiry and investigation, and your life will be far more meaningful than you could ever imagine.
What can you expect
I generally publish two or three blog posts on a weekly basis. Other resources such as ebooks and training programs will be released from time to time. To stay touch with the latest blog posts and publishing events, simply submit your name and email below.
So who am I?
Originally from China, I pursued a career in aviation after graduated from high school. I spent a number of years on international flights flying passengers around the world. It was an overall interesting experience but high repetitive and regimented in nature. Feeling unfulfilled and mind-numbing, I made a choice to steer my life toward a different direction.
I moved to Australia in 2006. Initially I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do. While trying to figure out my future, I spent quite some time reading books in psychology, science and personal development. The synthesis of ideas contained in those books definitely made an impact on the quality of my life experience. What was even more remarkable was that I began to see the value of self-education.
I taught myself Mnemonics * which over time transformed the quality of my memory and the ability to concentrate. It is still a fun activity flicking through two decks of cards quickly then recall the sequence without any mistakes. Although I haven’t tried this trick in a Casino, it is definitely very handy for study and exam preparation.
I completed my degree in Biomedical science in 2015 with perfect results. And I am now pursuing a career in medicine.
*Mnemonics is a practice of strengthening human memory which can be dated back to the time of ancient Greeks and Romans.
